In a tragic turn of events stemming from a domestic violence call, 60-year-old Marcus Gene Hodges of Macclenny, Florida, lost his life on January 17, 2026. The male victim was fatally shot by his own son, creating a sorrowful and violent scene that would ultimately involve law enforcement and lead to a second death.
When Baker County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the domestic disturbance, they were met with gunfire upon approaching the residence.
The gunman, identified as 36-year-old Marcus Shane Hodges, fired at the officers, striking one deputy in the arm. The deputy's bulletproof vest absorbed two additional rounds, which undoubtedly saved him from more severe, life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening wound and has since been released.
