In the early hours of December 30, 2025, the life of 45-year-old Carl Darell Melvin was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in Homestead, Florida. The incident, which also left another man, Quentavis Lejohn Smith, injured, unfolded while Melvin was broadcasting live on Facebook.
Known affectionately as "Baldy" to his friends and family, Melvin was a beloved figure in his community, remembered for his humor and his love for his family.
He was often seen on his porch, engaging with neighbors and sharing moments of his life through social media. On that fateful morning, as he was livestreaming, the joyful atmosphere was shattered by the intrusion of unidentified individuals.
The harrowing moments that followed were captured on the live feed. Viewers heard demands for money, followed by the sound of multiple gunshots. When Florida City police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, they found Melvin with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith, who was also shot, was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has taken charge of the homicide investigation.
