On the night of February 13, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in a South Dallas neighborhood, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Jackie Denard Jernigan, a 21-year-old male, was killed in the shooting, which occurred in the 4600 block of Elsie Faye Heggins Street. When police officers arrived at the scene around 10:47 p.m., they found that two men had been shot. Emergency responders from Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced Jernigan dead at the scene.
