In the late hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the city of Claxton, Georgia, was disturbed by the sound of gunfire. Jonathan Gaines, a 48-year-old man, was discovered inside a vehicle on Terrell Street with multiple gunshot wounds. Law enforcement and emergency services responded to a 911 call that came in at approximately 10:55 p.m. Another individual was also present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and received treatment at a local hospital before being released.
