Jonathan C. Bailes, an 18-year-old male from Topeka, Kansas, was killed on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, after a shooting in the Montara area south of Topeka. The first emergency call came in just after 5:00 p.m., when Shawnee County Emergency Communications received a report of a possible shooting connected to the Montara subdivision. Deputies with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office responded and eventually determined the incident had happened at a residence in the 2000 block of SW 70th Terrace.
