In the Morris Heights neighborhood of the Bronx, a long-standing dispute between neighbors tragically culminated in the death of 21-year-old Justin Chatfield on the evening of April 2, 2026. Chatfield, a young man on the verge of fatherhood, was fatally shot in the torso in the hallway of his apartment building at 30 Richman Plaza. The incident occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. following what was described as an ongoing feud with his 76-year-old neighbor, Gilbert Smalls.
