Franklin Mendez, a 23-year-old male from Elizabeth, New Jersey, was killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 30, 2026, after gunfire broke out on Caldwell Place in Elizabeth. Elizabeth police officers were sent to the area after a report of a shooting, and when they arrived, they found Mendez suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities initially described the injury as fatal, and later reports from prosecutors said he had been struck multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
