William Richter was a 23-year-old white male and United States Army serviceman who became the victim of an armed robbery carried out by members of the group authorities called the De Mau Mau gang. On September 2, 1972, Richter and James Davis were near trucks parked along a highway in Highland Park, Illinois, when several men arrived intending to steal money.
