On the evening of August 1, 2026, a domestic dispute in Port St. Lucie, Florida, ended in a tragic murder-suicide. Elizabeth Ortega, a 50-year-old woman and a respected dispatcher for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, was fatally shot by her long-term partner, Ralph Varela Senior, also 50.
