Demontae Johnson, a 20-year-old Black man from Columbus, Ohio, was fatally wounded in a shooting on the city's southeast side in late July 2026. Although the shooting occurred on July 26, online police and news records state that Johnson remained alive for several days afterward and was pronounced dead on July 30, 2026. Columbus police classified the case as a homicide after his death.
