Jerome Kirk, a 20-year-old Black man from Springfield, Illinois, was fatally shot on September 6, 2026, while visiting Chicago. The shooting occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. in the 300 block of North Lamon Avenue in the Austin neighborhood on the city's West Side. Kirk was sitting inside a vehicle when an individual approached and opened fire. Chicago police said multiple shots were fired, striking Kirk throughout his body.
