On the night of August 29, 2026, 31-year-old Kody Pena was working as a security guard at a private event held at the Los Banos Fairgrounds in Merced County, California. At approximately 11:12 p.m., deputies from the Merced County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the fairgrounds following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Pena suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to render aid, Kody Pena was pronounced deceased at the scene.
