Summary based on 2 sources
Marcus Collins, 38, was stabbed to death during an argument in the 2100 block of East 69th Street in South Shore, on Chicago's South Side, on the morning of Saturday, September 3, 2022, the start of the Labor Day weekend. Area One detectives of the Chicago Police Department investigated. The Chicago Sun-Times homicide tracker, which lists every homicide in the city, records his death as a stabbing.

At about 7:20 a.m., Collins was arguing with a woman when she began stabbing him, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. He suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No one else was reported hurt.

Police described the attacker only as a "female offender." No name, age, physical description, clothing or vehicle was released, and police did not say whether the two knew each other, what the argument was about, or whether the woman stayed at the scene or fled. No arrest was reported, no person of interest was named, and no reward tied to his death could be found.

Very little about Marcus Collins's life has been made public. No obituary, family statement, memorial or fundraiser clearly tied to the man who died on East 69th Street could be found. Marcus Collins is a common name, and searches are dominated by a University of Michigan marketing professor, a Denver lawyer, actors and others who share it. None of those stories is about him, and their volume makes it harder to find any trace of the man who died in South Shore.

The 2100 block of East 69th Street lies in South Shore, a lakefront community of apartment buildings, courtyard walk-ups and older homes on the South Side, close to the commercial strip along 71st Street and the Metra Electric line. An argument and stabbing on the street at 7:20 on a Saturday morning, as neighbors walked dogs or headed out for the holiday weekend, is something people nearby may well have seen or heard.

Chicago recorded about 720 homicides in 2022, down from about 800 in 2021, which had been the deadliest year in a quarter century. Chicago police reported clearing roughly half of the city's homicides in those years, though those figures count cases closed without charges. Stabbings that follow arguments often involve people who know each other, and those cases depend heavily on witnesses being willing to come forward.

No arrest, criminal charge or court case connected to the death of Marcus Collins could be found in news archives or public records. More than 4 years later, there is no public sign that anyone has been held responsible. Anyone who saw the argument on East 69th Street that morning, or who knows the woman police described, may be able to help. Even a small detail, such as a name overheard, a car seen leaving the area or a conversation remembered, can help detectives move a case forward. Anyone with information can call the Chicago Police Department's anonymous tip line at (833) 408-0069 or submit a tip online at CPDTIP.com, or contact Cook County Crime Stoppers at (800) 535-STOP (7867).
