Isaiah Henry Goodson, a loving and hardworking 20-year-old man, was remembered by his family as their "glue." Born on September 15, 2006, Isaiah was known as a family-oriented person who kept everyone together. His cousin, Dacora Lewis, said they could call him for anything. His aunt described him as a "very loving person, didn’t get in any trouble." Besides his main job, Isaiah also worked for DoorDash to make extra money. His life, though brief, was described as precious and meaningful, and he is survived by his grandmother, Jacqueline Lewis, and other family members who hold his memory close.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026, Isaiah went to a Halloween party in Jacksonville, Florida, just wanting to have a good time. The party, held at a house near the intersection of Wilcox and 5th streets in the Durkeeville neighborhood, had drawn a crowd of 100 to 200 people. As the gathering grew, it spilled out into the streets.
Around 3:50 a.m., chaos erupted when gunfire broke out. Witnesses and police reported that two separate volleys of shots were fired in quick succession, with one neighbor describing the sound not as individual pops, but as an automatic weapon. It is believed most of the victims were hit during the second round of gunfire.
When officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they found a night of celebration had turned into one of horror. Ten people had been shot. Isaiah Goodson was found wounded at the scene and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His family later said that he died while trying to protect others during the shooting. His cousin Dacora Lewis called him a hero, saying, "He passed protecting others. Definitely the type of guy he was."
The other nine victims ranged in age from 15 to 25. A 15-year-old girl was among the wounded, along with seven other women and two men. One female victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other eight victims were listed in stable condition. The day after the shooting, the area around Wilcox and 5th streets was still littered with shoes, trash, and personal belongings left behind as people fled the violence. The incident was part of a particularly violent Halloween weekend in Jacksonville, during which a total of 17 people were shot and three were killed in six separate encounters.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the mass shooting. In the immediate aftermath, police had not identified any suspects or determined how many shooters were involved. Investigators urged the community for help, asking anyone who was at the party or who might have cellphone video of the incident to come forward with information. They noted that solving the case would rely heavily on tips from the public.
Isaiah’s grieving family echoed the police's call for assistance, pleading for anyone with information to contact the authorities. "He was only 20 years old. Like, he had a lot more life to go," his cousin said. "He was a great guy. He went to work... like he just wanted to go out and have a good time." As of early November 2026, no arrests had been made, and the investigation remained active and ongoing. The family mourns the loss of the young man they called the glue that held them together, remembering him as loving, strong, and a hero. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or to provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
