Judisbeth Silva, an 18-year-old woman from San Fernando, California, was looking forward to a night of celebration with friends over the Halloween weekend in 2026. She traveled to Bakersfield on Saturday, October 31, to attend a large holiday gathering at a venue in the 4000 block of Rosedale Highway, near Gibson Street. The party had drawn a massive crowd, with several hundred people in attendance. In the aftermath of the tragedy that followed, a GoFundMe fundraiser was organized to provide support for her grieving family.
The festive night took a violent and tragic turn in the first hour of Sunday, November 1. At around 12:34 a.m., as the party was winding down and people were leaving, chaos erupted. Judisbeth and her friends were standing outside the venue amid a large crowd when a person opened fire. All three women in her group were struck by the gunfire.
A surviving friend later recounted that just before the shooting started, she and others overheard a group of about three men discussing what sounded like a robbery. The friend also stated she was told the shooter had tried to get into the party earlier but had been turned away at the door.
The first calls to law enforcement reflected this account, with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office being dispatched for reports of an armed robbery in progress. When deputies arrived, they were met with a scene of panic as hundreds of attendees were fleeing the area. They discovered three young women suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, Judisbeth Silva’s injuries were fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:58 a.m., according to the Kern County Coroner's Office. The two other victims, her friends, were transported to a local hospital with injuries that authorities described as not life-threatening.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office immediately launched a homicide investigation, with detectives trying to piece together the sequence of events in a complex and chaotic crime scene. In a statement, the department noted that the investigation was in its preliminary stages and that many details could not be released to protect the integrity of the case. They confirmed that the suspect, or suspects, remained at large but stated they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the general public.
Recognizing the challenge of identifying a shooter in a crowd of hundreds, investigators made a broad public appeal for help. The Sheriff’s Office specifically asked anyone who attended the Halloween party to come forward and submit any photographs or videos they may have taken before, during, or after the shooting. "Even footage that may seem insignificant could help us establish a clearer timeline, identify individuals, and better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement. To facilitate this, the department provided a direct link and a QR code for people to upload digital files for review by detectives.
As of early November 2026, the investigation into Judisbeth Silva's murder is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made, and the person or people responsible for her death have not been publicly identified. The case is being handled by Detective Leiva of the Kern County Sheriff's Office. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the shooting, no matter how small it may seem, to contact investigators at 661-861-3110 or Detective Leiva directly at 661-391-7606.
