On the afternoon of Thursday, March 17, 2016, Khyree Dyches, a 21-year-old Black male, was on his way to visit a friend in his North Philadelphia neighborhood. Just 17 days after his twenty-first birthday, his life was tragically cut short. As he walked, he was gunned down at the intersection of 31st and Cumberland Street. The incident occurred at approximately 1:37 p.m., when Philadelphia Police officers responded to a call and found Dyches lying on the pavement with multiple gunshot wounds.
