Jacques Charles, a 32-year-old Black male from Philadelphia, was killed on the night of July 14, 2013, in the Grays Ferry section of the city, not far from the place he called home. He lived on the 2800 block of Wharton Street, and when the violence unfolded, it happened only a short distance away on the 2700 block of Reed Street.
