Dwayne Ballard Jr., a 17-year-old Black male from Philadelphia, was shot and killed in the early hours of March 5, 2011, near 7th and Green Streets in Philadelphia’s Spring Garden/Northern Liberties area. Police found him around 12:15 a.m. near the street corner, and the killing quickly became a painful scene for the people who knew him. The place where he was found became a gathering point, with relatives, friends, and neighbors coming together near a wall close to where his life ended.
