A violent confrontation in a driveway on a Saturday morning ended the life of 34-year-old Emanuel Carrillo. The Hispanic man was in northeast Houston, Texas, on May 21, 2016, when an argument escalated to gunfire.
The incident began around 6:30 a.m. at a house in the 1800 block of McDaniel Street. According to Houston police, a man arrived at the home of his ex-girlfriend and confronted Carrillo, who was her new boyfriend. The two men were in the driveway when the ex-boyfriend produced a gun and shot Carrillo.
Emanuel Carrillo died at the scene. In the moments after he was shot, officials said a third man who had been inside the house grabbed a gun of his own. This man then shot the ex-boyfriend who had just attacked Carrillo.
The ex-boyfriend was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and police stated at the time that he was expected to survive his injuries.
Houston police homicide detectives responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses. Investigators publicly stated that they believed jealousy may have been the motive behind the deadly shooting. At the time, no arrests had been made in the case. As of May 2016, the investigation into the death of Emanuel Carrillo was ongoing, and the case remains unsolved.
