Sherron Wilkins was a 34-year-old African-American man described by his wife, Sharee, as "loving, caring and kind." She said, "He was a good man, he had a good heart." The couple lived together in a home in northeast Houston, Texas.

Just after midnight on February 19, 2016, someone came to the door of the Wilkins' home on the 4100 block of Englewood. Sherron and Sharee went outside into their driveway to speak with the person, who was an acquaintance. An altercation broke out between Sherron and the man, who then pulled out a pistol and shot Sherron multiple times as his wife watched.

A neighbor who had just returned home from work heard three gunshots and saw Sherron lying in the driveway. Sharee called 911 and tried to perform CPR on her husband until paramedics arrived. Sherron Wilkins was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Witnesses told Houston police that the shooter, described as a Black male, fled the scene in a dark SUV, driving northbound on Englewood. A family friend who was inside the house at the time heard the gunshots and saw the vehicle driving away. Investigators soon identified a 60-year-old man as the person who shot Sherron.

The man was detained and questioned by police before being released on February 22, 2016. Authorities announced that the case would be presented to a Harris County grand jury. The outcome of that referral is not known, and the case remains unsolved as of February 2016. The Houston Police Department urges anyone with information to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
