Investigators believe the events that led to Ronald's death began in the early hours of May 7, 1983. The prevailing police theory at the time was that the homicide was the result of a fight that had occurred inside a bar just a few hours before he was found.
The following day, on May 8, 1983, Ronald’s body was discovered on Garfield Road, a stretch of road located between Magna and the beaches of the Great Salt Lake.
An examination determined that he had been stabbed repeatedly.
Although investigators pursued the theory that the crime was connected to a bar fight, the trail did not lead to any arrests. No suspects were ever publicly identified in the case. As of December 1989, the murder of Ronald Maurath remained unsolved.
