In the winter of 2019, the life of 23-year-old Ledarius Jaquad Peterson came to a violent end within the walls of the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham, Alabama. On the evening of February 20th, Peterson was assaulted by another inmate, an act that would ultimately prove fatal. At the time of his death, he was being held on a murder charge in connection with the 2017 death of his roommate.
Emergency medical efforts were made to save Peterson after the assault, but they were unsuccessful
