Howard Edward Johnson, a 29-year-old Black man, was killed on the night of April 7, 2021, after violence erupted inside a home on Avenue G in Birmingham, Alabama. Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Avenue G a little after 10 p.m., called there by reports that someone had been shot. When officers entered the residence, they found him in the hallway with apparent gunshot wounds, the kind of scene that goes quiet for a moment as everyone in the room realizes what can’t be taken back.
