In the afternoon hours of April 25, 2022, a distressing scene unfolded in a quiet Birmingham, Alabama neighborhood. Jomorion Gordon, a 19-year-old Black male, was found in a car that had veered off the road and collided with a tree in the 8300 block of 4th Avenue South. The initial call to Birmingham Police, at approximately 2:00 p.m., was for a vehicle collision, but first responders quickly discovered a more grim reality.
