On New Year's Day of 2024, a verbal dispute on the front porch of a home in Anniston, Alabama, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 21-year-old Kasmine L. McAfee. The young African American mother was on her property in the 2700 block of Simpson Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. when a man she did not know walked onto her land.
