On the Fourth of July in 2021, a day typically marked by celebration, 53-year-old Keith Edmond Nelms, a male resident of Decatur, Alabama, was found dead from gunshot wounds. The tragic event unfolded at a residence on Highway 20 in a rural area outside the city limits. Authorities were dispatched to the scene following a report of a shooting.
