On February 4, 2021, 33-year-old Edward Dee "E.J." Stewart III was found deceased in a room at the Anchor Motel, located at 8420 1st Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. Responding to a 911 call at approximately 6:05 p.m., Birmingham Police officers and Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel discovered Stewart unresponsive, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
