In the summer of 2018, the life of 25-year-old Deontre Gernond Turner, a Black male from Birmingham, Alabama, was cut short in a burst of violence. On the evening of August 18th, Turner was in his car in a west Birmingham neighborhood when he was fatally shot. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity.
