In the winter of 2018, a dispute over child custody tragically escalated, leading to the death of Chad Edwin Gardner, a 26-year-old male from Sheffield, Alabama. On Sunday, January 7th, Gardner went to a residence in the 1900 block of East 17th Street in Sheffield to pick up his children from his ex-wife.
