In the small city of Tuskegee, Alabama, George Montgomery, a 54-year-old Black man, was a familiar and welcome presence. Known for his kindness and generosity, he was the kind of person who, as friends would say, would give you the shirt off his back. He spent his days as a barber at the local Veterans Affairs facility, a place where stories were shared and friendships were forged. An alumnus of Aliceville High School, he was a man who had deep roots in the community.
