In the early morning hours of May 14, 2013, the body of 37-year-old Ashley Carol Lane was discovered in Birmingham, Alabama. A woman out for a walk made the grim discovery, finding Ms. Lane, a Caucasian female, partially on the sidewalk and grass. It was soon determined that she had been shot in the back.
