On March 3, 2008, 20-year-old Gilbert Phillips was fatally shot while driving on the 3000 block of Pearson Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. After being shot in the head, Phillips lost control of his vehicle, which subsequently crashed into a utility pole on the 3300 block of Pearson Avenue. He was transported to Baptist Medical Center-Princeton, where he succumbed to his injuries. A passenger in the vehicle sustained a head injury but survived.
