In the summer of 1942, a tragic incident cut short the life of Patrolman Thomas Jackson Blake in Prichard, Alabama. On the fourth of July, the 36-year-old officer was involved in a struggle with a suspect. During the altercation, a fellow officer accidentally discharged his weapon, fatally wounding Blake.
