Walter Franklin Granger, a 63-year-old male, was serving as the city marshal in Tarrant City, Alabama, when his life ended in violence on March 17, 1920. The online accounts that survive describe a day that began with another disturbance and ended with Granger walking into deadly danger. He had been trying to arrest a man who was accused of assaulting a boy earlier that day, and when Granger approached the suspect’s home, the confrontation turned fatal almost immediately.
