In the early morning hours of Thursday, August 28, 1902, a Bessemer Police Officer's life was tragically cut short in the line of duty. Officer John J. Flowers, a 48-year-old male, was patrolling the Alabama Great Southern rail yard with his partner, a routine task of looking for trespassers that would soon turn fatal.
