In the late 19th century, a dedicated police officer in Montgomery, Alabama, lost his life in the line of duty. Officer John F. Suggs, a male, was shot and killed on February 15, 1896, while responding to a domestic violence call. He was attempting to arrest a man who was reportedly beating his wife.
During the attempt to take the suspect into custody, Officer Suggs was fatally wounded by gunfire. The man responsible for the officer's death was apprehended by law enforcement at the scene.
