In the late 19th century, a dedicated police officer in Montgomery, Alabama, lost his life in the line of duty. Officer John F. Suggs, a male, was shot and killed on February 15, 1896, while responding to a domestic violence call. He was attempting to arrest a man who was reportedly beating his wife.
