On Christmas Day in 2015, a tragic event unfolded inside a Mesa, Arizona apartment complex near US 60 and Gilbert Road. A 24-year-old man, Robert Gertos, was found inside his apartment with a fatal gunshot wound. Authorities were called to the scene at approximately 1:00 p.m. and, upon their arrival, pronounced him dead. The initial investigation into the death of the young man, a former USMC Infantry member described as outgoing and full of life, pointed towards a possible drug-related motive.
