In the quiet community of Cordes Lakes, Arizona, a routine call on a Tuesday afternoon spiraled into a tragedy that would end the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer. Sergeant Richard Lopez, a 51-year-old male and a 14-year veteran of the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, was investigating a theft on June 28, 2022. While attempting to apprehend a suspect in connection with the theft near Stagecoach Trail and Red Rock Lane, the situation took a violent turn.
