On August 20, 2023, a shooting occurred within the small town of Parkin. Ivan was struck by gunfire during the incident and suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but he did not survive. He died at the hospital from the wounds he had sustained.
