On October 20, 2024, Juan Miguel Menjivar, a 53-year-old man from Homestead, Florida, was fatally shot along with another victim, Jose Wilian Galdamez Menjivar, 40, at a plant nursery located at 21495 Southwest 240th Street in southern Miami-Dade.
The incident occurred in the evening when Eric Jose Garcia, a 35-year-old Miami man, encountered Galdamez Menjivar's truck blocking a dirt road on the nursery property.
Garcia stated that he parked his truck, got out, and approached Galdamez Menjivar's vehicle. When asked to move the truck, Galdamez Menjivar reportedly refused. Both victims then approached Garcia's truck, with Miguel Menjivar hitting the hood of Garcia's truck with a beer bottle.
Garcia claimed that he felt threatened because the victims were too close to his driver's side door, which was ajar. He began shooting at both men, chasing them as they tried to run away and continuing to shoot until he ensured they were dead. A witness observed the entire incident.
Police responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. and found both victims dead. Garcia was present and admitted to shooting the two men. He was arrested and booked into jail without bond.
Garcia is facing two counts of second-degree murder for the shootings. The investigation and subsequent arrest were based on Garcia's own statements and the witness's account of the events. As of the current date, Garcia remains in custody.
