Leonora Vata, a 56-year-old resident of Pinellas Park, Florida, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024. She was born on May 2, 1968, in Shkoder, Albania, and was known for her compassionate nature and her deep love for helping others, especially the elderly.
The circumstances of her death were tragic and involved a domestic dispute. The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. on August 29, 2024, in the 6300 Block of 58th Street N in Pinellas Park.
An argument between Leonora Vata and her husband, 65-year-old Evangelos Mitrakos, escalated into a fatal shooting. According to the investigation, the argument began when Vata squirted water from a water bottle onto Mitrakos' shirt and commented that he should kill himself. Mitrakos responded by saying, “I got something better to do,” and then retrieved a Ruger 380 semi-automatic handgun from the bedroom. He shot Vata until all the bullets were out of the firearm.
When officers from the Pinellas Park Police Department arrived at the residence, Mitrakos was detained after admitting to the shooting. He had exited the residence and informed a neighbor that he had shot and killed his wife. Mitrakos was subsequently booked into the Pinellas County Jail on charges of 2nd Degree Murder.
Vata was transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The investigation confirmed that the shooting was the result of the argument between the married couple.
