Devon Blake, a 58-year-old resident of Davie, Florida, tragically lost his life following a shooting incident that occurred on June 25, 2024, in Miramar, Florida. The incident took place at the Miramar Park of Commerce, specifically in the 10700 block of Enterprise Way near Coaster Furniture.
Blake was one of two victims in a double shooting that unfolded just before 11 a.m. on that Tuesday. According to witnesses, Blake was purchasing lunch from a food truck that regularly visits the business when the shooting occurred. Both victims were rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital's trauma center, where Blake later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect, initially described as a male wearing an orange shirt, dark pants, a black mask, sunglasses, and a black hat, fled the scene immediately after the shooting. This led to a temporary lockdown of the area as authorities conducted a thorough search, including the use of K-9 units to track the shooter's direction.
On July 9, 2024, police made an arrest in connection with the case. Darryle Durrell Everett, 37, was taken into custody and charged with one count each of premeditated murder and attempted murder. According to Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Ordaz, Everett and Blake were known to each other, although the motive for the shooting was not immediately disclosed. The second victim, who was grazed by a bullet, was described as an innocent bystander.
The incident shocked the local community and highlighted ongoing concerns about gun violence in the area. As the investigation continued, authorities urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist in the case.
