On Sunday, June 23, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the 2800 block of NE 8th Terrace in northeast Ocala, Florida. The Ocala Police Department (OPD) responded to the incident around 11:25 p.m. and found 24-year-old Derrick Brown Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. Brown was immediately transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Derrick Brown Jr. was identified by law enforcement, and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
The OPD has not released any additional details regarding the shooting or any potential suspects at this time. The police are actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation.
Friends and family have expressed their grief on social media, referring to Brown as "DJ" and sharing thoughts and prayers for his family, including his mother, Tamara Gunsby, and his father, Derrick Brown, Sr. Brown’s aunt, Rashunda Grimsley, described the family's devastation, stating her heart was "broken in a million pieces."
