Kelvin Stanley Daye Jr., a father of six in his late 20s, was fatally shot while driving in Southwest Miami-Dade on April 12, 2024. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. after a ShotSpotter alert led authorities to the scene in the 10100 block of East Hibiscus Street in West Perrine.
Daye had been driving away from his sister’s house when the shooting took place.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing the vehicle lose control, crash into a sign, and end up in a neighbor’s yard. The car had significant damage, including a completely gone back window and bullet holes on the passenger side.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported Daye to Jackson South Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries. Neighbors described the scene as chaotic and expressed their concern about the frequent gun violence in the area. Mark Harris, a local activist, emphasized the need for community change and urged young people to lay down their guns to keep families safe.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of the current date. The Miami-Dade police are seeking any additional information from the public and encourage witnesses to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS, with the possibility of a reward of up to $5,000 for anonymous tips.
