On March 29, 2024, Jamie Bukoski Felix, a 45-year-old teacher, was tragically killed in a violent incident involving her estranged husband, Ray Felix. The events unfolded when Ray Felix, aged 60, approached Jamie and their two children at a local business in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was dressed in a disguise and forced them into a rental car.
Once inside the car, Ray confronted Jamie about their impending divorce and compelled her to send a suspicious email to her coworkers at
Manatee K-8 School. This email raised concerns among her colleagues, who subsequently contacted the police. Ray then instructed Jamie to drive her own car while he kept her at gunpoint, forcing one of their sons to follow behind them in the rental car.
The Port St. Lucie police tracked Jamie's car to West Palm Beach, where they were alerted by local authorities that the couple had died in an apparent murder-suicide. According to the police, Ray shot Jamie in a motel parking lot in front of their children before driving to a rental car facility. There, he was confronted by officers and subsequently shot himself.
This incident highlighted the dangers of domestic violence, as Ray Felix had previously been arrested in October 2023 and charged with domestic battery following a dispute with Jamie.
