On Saturday, March 23, 2024, a shooting occurred in the area of 100 NW 253rd Street in Newberry, Florida, resulting in the death of 18-year-old Jermaine Godbolt, a senior at Newberry High School. Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 10 p.m. and found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies provided medical aid until Alachua County Fire Rescue transported the victim to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
