Dylan Isaacs, a 30-year-old man from Six Nations of the Grand River, Ontario, was fatally shot on January 7, 2024, after attending a Buffalo Bills-Miami Dolphins NFL game at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Following the game, Isaacs and his friends were walking through a retail area near a Walmart when they became involved in a verbal argument with an unknown male. The altercation escalated when the male attempted to intentionally hit them with a silver four-door Honda Accord.
After the vehicle sped away, Isaacs and his friends chased after it, and the driver stopped, got out, and shot Isaacs before fleeing the scene.
Despite efforts by police and paramedics to revive him, Isaacs died from the gunshot wounds at the scene, which was reported around 11:55 p.m. on January 7. The vehicle used by the suspect was later recovered and seized by officers in West Palm Beach, approximately 60 miles from the stadium.
Isaacs was an avid sports fan and a proud member of the Haudenosaunee community. He worked as an archaeological community monitor with the Six Nations reserve since 2021 and was remembered for his bright personality and deep commitment to his community.
The family and friends of Dylan Isaacs have been seeking support to cover the costs of transporting his body back to Six Nations, Canada, and for funeral arrangements. A GoFundMe campaign, which surpassed its $50,000 goal, was set up to help with these expenses. The campaign highlighted the senseless nature of his death and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community, including fans of the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.
As of the latest updates, Miami Gardens police have spoken to a person of interest but have not made an arrest or laid charges. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for Isaacs' death.
A funeral for Dylan Isaacs was held on January 13, 2024, in Ohsweken, Ontario, where he was buried after a ceremony at the nearby Onondaga Longhouse. The family and community gathered to pay their respects and begin the healing process, while also awaiting justice for his death.
