On August 11, 2023, Franklin Orwig Sr., a 58-year-old resident of Cocoa, Florida, was shot and killed in an incident that occurred in unincorporated Cocoa. The investigation began when deputies from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Burgess Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m. after receiving a report that a man had been shot.
Upon arrival, deputies found the male victim, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital.
Despite medical efforts, Franklin Orwig Sr. was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Agents from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units are involved in the investigation, which includes conducting interviews and examining evidence. Preliminary findings suggest that the individuals involved in the incident were known to each other, and there is no indication of a danger to the general public.
