On June 25, 2023, Melbourne Police responded to a domestic violence call involving Ronald Gordon and his girlfriend. The girlfriend reported that Gordon attacked her and attempted to rip a necklace from her neck. In response, she retrieved a firearm and shot Gordon, who then fled the scene. Gordon contacted the police stating he had been shot but became unresponsive when officers arrived.
He was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he remained in intensive care until his death on July 4, 2023.
A viewing was held on Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Melbourne, Florida. The funeral service immediately followed at 3:00 PM at the same location. Family and friends were invited to leave their condolences on the memorial page and share memories of Gordon.
The Melbourne Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gordon's death. The name of the girlfriend involved has not been released, in accordance with Marsy's Law. Authorities have not disclosed whether any charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
