On June 18, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in Haines City, Florida, resulting in the death of 24-year-old Naquan Elijah Swift. The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. on the 1000th block of Avenue N, where a group of men were engaged in a game of chess. Kristavion Jacoi Harris, a 22-year-old man known by the alias "Pooh Bear," walked up to the residence and initiated an argument with Swift. This argument escalated, and Harris pulled out a firearm, shooting Swift multiple times.

Swift was immediately taken to a local hospital, where despite life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries. In addition to Swift, a 46-year-old bystander was also injured in the shooting. This second victim was taken to the hospital by a private party and underwent surgery for his injuries. As of the reports, the second victim was in stable condition.

Harris was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and using or displaying a firearm during the commission of a felony. The Haines City Police Department credited the community for their support in quickly apprehending Harris, who was considered armed and dangerous. A $5,000 reward had been offered for information leading to his arrest.

The police investigation also aimed to determine the relationship between Harris and the victims. Harris was taken into custody at the Polk County Sheriff’s Central District Office in Winter Haven following his arrest.
